Both are US-only; Australian advertisers can access the Model Context Protocol and Smart+ tools but TikTok has given no timeline for the bigger features here. eMarketer forecasts TikTok US ad revenue will grow 25% to US$17.69 billion in 2026.

Five products, one event

TikTok arrived at Advertising Week New York on 5 October with five advertising announcements that together sketch out a platform reaching well beyond its short-video feed.[1] The products span commerce, lead generation, off-platform reach and API-native campaign management.

The most direct consumer-facing addition is Buy Direct: a one-click checkout built with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe that lets users purchase directly from the For You feed without leaving the app.[1] TikTok also introduced Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent handling product details, sizing, delivery and purchase options inside a single chat thread, and Agentic Leads, an AI agent for lead capture and qualification running inside TikTok Direct Message and advertiser-owned website forms.[1]

The ad network number

The TikTok Ad Network, formerly known as Pangle, opened to US advertisers on 5 October, giving campaigns access to roughly 400,000 third-party apps.[1] Integral Ad Science (IAS) is named as the measurement partner, covering viewability, invalid traffic and brand safety.[3] Pangle has sold inventory outside the US for years; TikTok has not said whether the rebranded network's US terms will change elsewhere.

Lindsay Baker of agency Crossmedia offered a cooler read, telling Digiday that "the real value of TikTok is still TikTok itself."[5] Whether advertisers follow reach dollars into 400,000 unfamiliar app environments will test that view quickly.

MCP goes mainstream

The TikTok for Business Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets AI platforms build, upload and analyse campaigns via API, has seen advertiser usage rise 200% since launch and is now a native connector in Claude, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.[1] George Velonias, Head of Growth Marketing at Wayfair Canada, said the tool had become critical to their AI-powered campaign workflows, covering how they build campaigns, upload creative and analyse performance.[1]

David Kaufman, TikTok's Global Head of Monetisation Product Partnerships, said "AI is transforming how advertiser content is created and scaled."[1] TikTok also updated Smart+ with Search Ads and Creative Selection, automation tools that mix advertiser assets, AI-generated options and creator content to optimise search campaigns and cut approval time.[1]

The revenue pressure behind the push

eMarketer puts TikTok's US ad revenue at US$14.12 billion for 2025, rising to US$17.69 billion in 2026, a 25.3% increase that depends on exactly the kind of full-funnel, off-platform growth announced at Advertising Week.[5] Commerce and off-platform inventory are where that growth has to come from, given that CPM growth inside a single feed has a ceiling.

Meta's Muse agent is already shopping for Australian users, bypassing conventional ad formats entirely.[6] TikTok's Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant sit squarely in the same territory.

Where Australian advertisers stand

Australian marketers can access the MCP and Smart+ tools where TikTok has made them available, but Buy Direct and the TikTok Ad Network are US-only at launch.[2] TikTok has not said when either product will roll out in Australia.

The 200% rise in MCP advertiser usage is the one figure Australian agencies can act on immediately, since the connector is available to any team running Claude or Perplexity.[1] TikTok has not announced a date for bringing Buy Direct or the ad network to Australian advertisers.[4]
