How The Index works

The methodology behind Prompt the Market's leaderboards, including sources, samples and update rules.

The Index is Prompt the Market's set of leaderboards ranking brands, agencies and media companies. Every leaderboard is published with its method, because a ranking is only as useful as the evidence behind it.

What every leaderboard discloses

  • Source. The data provider or study the ranking is built from, named and linked.
  • Sample and period. How many respondents, queries or data points, and when they were collected.
  • Measure. Exactly what is being ranked, for example share of trust, share of citations or share of recommendations.
  • Date. When the leaderboard was last updated.

Third-party data

Where a leaderboard is built from another organisation's research, we report their figures as published and credit them. We do not re-weight or adjust third-party results. Vendor-funded research is identified as such.

Our own testing

Where a leaderboard is built from our own testing of AI answer engines, the article states which systems were tested, how many questions were asked, how many times each was repeated, and the collection dates. Results from AI systems vary between runs, so we report them as shares across repeated runs rather than single answers.

Conflicts

Prompt the Market is owned by Bushnote. Where Bushnote or one of its clients appears in a leaderboard, the leaderboard says so. Their position is determined by the data, not adjusted.

Changes and corrections

If a leaderboard contains an error, it is corrected under our corrections policy and logged in the corrections log.
